chapitre 5: at the limit of human mind

One tried to destroy their bond, to cut it loose - the other one did his best to protect it. In the end, only two lost and incomplete souls remained. For me Naruto and Sasuke are simply part of one whole, where the one can't live without the other - at the moment both of them are lacking something, there is something missing, no matter how you look at it - neither of them is complete without the other.

Sasuke still has, I'm sure of that, a small spark of hope and warmth within him and Naruto is the one who doesn't let this small light go out. He is the wind that keeps the fire from extinguishing; the strength that the other desperately seeks, but has not found yet; the comfort and support the other one subconsciously always has been looking for.

Naruto will always believe in himself and in Sasuke, and he will never stop trying to bring him back, and one day, he will succeed. Sasuke is the one who makes Naruto a whole again, the one Naruto will chase, when necessary for a lifetime and longer; he is the one Naruto is willing to sacrifice himself and give everyhting up for.

I'm being honest here with saying that I don't know what to call such a relationship. Everyone should define this on his own- be it love, brotherhood, friendship, or something completely different.

Either way, it's probably far away from being "beautiful", or how people define such a word. But still, if you ask me, it is some sort of beautiful. In a way you can't express it in mere words - it's recondite and profound, dedicated, devoted and strong - but also twisted and intricate - simply put, it is human.
Personally speaking, for me there is nothing more beautiful in the series, as the almost tragic story of those two boys, whose mutual need of each other is like nothing else, and despite all, they still got seperated because of a fate sealed upon them, which lies beyond their control.

But even so - call me naive, but I'm a woman of faith, and thus I believe with all my heart that everything will turn out well and Naruto is going to be the one to save Sasuke and once and for all, he'll be the one to heal the scars of the past, in order to lead them both towards a dream, which lies in the future, and makes both of their lives complete again.

So in the end, coming back to the first question I raised - I do believe this series primarly revolves around the interaction of these two, no matter how you look at it. At least, "Naruto" tells us a story about two boys, who are torn between obsession and possession, desire and longing, also at last, between a deeper level of friendship, brotherhood - some kind of feeling a family gives you. They should experience a completely new layer of affection, being bound together by a bond that is built on admiration, respect, jealousy, pride, feelings of inferiority, a rivalry. But also a bond that consists of care and love - love for a person who you shared your very first tie with.

It's now up to everyone himself to decide how one calls such a relationship - for myself, I don't want to put it into words, because I strongly believe mere words could never capture the actual meaning and profundity of it. For me, it's just beautiful, and most of all, human.
